Woke Up in a Strange Place - Eric Arvin 2.5 stars

Dreamlike, surreal, vivid, whimsical, colorful...all words I would use to describe this after life the author created. It was beautifully written and I could clearly picture everything that was described.

Joe traveled through his afterlife and with each person he met he remembers an important part of his life on Earth. So I guess it was kind of like when “life flashes before your eyes” but instead slooooooowwwwly. While, those experiences were necessary to the story they did nothing for me. We met each “important person”, saw how they impacted Joe’s life and then moved on. There was no time for me to feel connected to any of the characters or to Joe. Let alone his experiences. And especially not his soul mate, Lou. We didn’t even really meet Lou until about 80%. How am I supposed to care about them finding each other when I don’t even know them as a couple? I know this is all about the journey but, really, his journey didn’t affect me. I never once cried. Trust me, if I had cared about these characters I should have been crying.

I guess I could say I liked it (<-- so convincing, right?). I mean, the idea was original and very imaginative in its descriptions but... yeah. I’m feeling no love for the couple. But it’s about the JOURNEY! I must not be deep enough to grasp and appreciate that idea. <br/>
But, I am in the waaaaaayyyy minority here. So, don't take my word for it. Try it out, it may be for you.
